NEW ENERGY LABELS

Energy-saving smeg appliances

The EU energy label was first introduced in 1995. Its purpose is to provide accurate, recognisable and comparable information on energy consumption and is considered representative of the technological progress of different household appliances. In a very simple way it divides all small and large household appliances into energy classes.

THE LETTERS OF THE ENERGY CLASSES

Each appliance bears a label with a letter of the alphabet indicating its power consumption, from the letter F for the most energy-hungry devices, to A++, which instead optimises consumption to the maximum. It is a legal requirement to display this label on appliances, at points of sale and on any website.

NEW ENERGY CLASSES FOR HOUSEHOLD APPLIANCES

Over the years, continuous technological improvements in terms of energy savings have brought large household appliances to the top of the rating scale, between A and A++ , limiting, however, any further technological progress. In order to reverse this trend, the gap between these energy ratings must be narrowed. This has led to the creation of new energy labels that change the evaluation criteria. The new energy rating label will give the industry more room for development and allow customers to compare products much more easily.

NEW ENERGY LABELS COMPARED

The main change is that past efficiency bands have been downgraded and reverted to a simple A-G classification, with no further differentiation. The A++/A+ classifications, for example, no longer exist.

Other common changes are:

QR code linked to a database providing access to product specifications.

Energy consumption of the model more prominently displayed in the centre of the label.

Noise rating from A-D for all products.

Modified pictograms. Some remain the same, while others are new or have been revised to reflect new test or measurement methods.

WHICH PRODUCTS ARE AFFECTED BY THESE CHANGES?

This update effects only the following product categories:

Examples of the new energy label are illustrated on the right.

No other product categories will be changing to the new energy label at this point.

REFRIGERATORS

The Smeg refrigeration range also ensures excellent performance in terms of energy savings. Class C of the new energy label, in fact, corresponds to the former class A+. The latest Smeg refrigerators have achieved the new class C rating thanks to efficient systems such as the Holiday Mode, which deactivates the refrigerator compartment while keeping only the freezer compartment running, or the no-frost technology which automatically defrosts the freezer to prevent ice from forming and keep food fresher for longer, thus reducing food waste.

DISHWASHER

Smeg dishwashers are designed to offer the best cleaning results with the lowest water consumption, with some models using as little as 9 litres of water.

In Eco mode, Smeg dishwashers use a reduced amount of water and energy to ensure a more environmentally friendly clean.

To save energy, the Dry Assist+ function has also been introduced, which opens the door of the appliance and allows natural drying that limits energy wastage.

INDUCTION COOKTOPS

Induction hobs are, among hobs, the most energy-saving option. This is because no heat is wasted during the cooking process. The latest Smeg induction hobs are equipped with the Eco - logic function, which allows you to limit the maximum power consumption of the hob by setting 10 power options from 1.5 kW to 7.2 kW. This option allows for greater efficiency in use by setting a limit only for what is really needed.
